It turned out that the last weekend of August was a perfect time for visiting Madrid, as the summer heat was gone, most locals were still on holiday and we had the city almost to ourselves. We had a very good deal on our hotel rate, shopping was great with all the summer sales running to an end, and there were no queues at the main attractions (except for the Titian exhibit at the Prado).
