A Great Trip Back to England

by Robachu1 - last update: Apr 14, 2008

Back to England

We went on BA. Got a free upgrade to Club World.
I lived in England more than 40 years ago. My father was in the military, stationed in Alconbury/Molesworth. My mother tells me that we lived in Cambridge a while (I don't remember). I do have vague memories of living in Molesworth though. We moved their after Cambridge. I remember going to nursery school, buying sweets, playing with friends, watching the Flower Pot Men TV show, and crashing my tricycle going down what seemed like the steepest hill in the world.
Well, Kaoru and I went back to England. She to see where the Bronte sisters and Beatrix Potter lived and I to see where I did.

An interesting homecoming.

I remember there being more to Molesworth than what I found on my return. The neighborhood where I lived was gone along with the US military. All that was left was a quiet little village built around one u-shaped road. I couldn't find my school and couldn't find the little shop where we kids used to buy sweets. I'm glad I went back though. Who knows, I may go back again someday.
Buy one if you have a lot of time for sightseeing.

Tourism Passes

I purchased two 7-day British Heritage Passes and two 2-day London Passes for us online before arriving in the UK. They were very easy to use and saved us time when collecting our tickets to the various tourist sites we visited.
We were able to use the BH Pass quite often and probably saved a little money in the long run. The London Pass proved to be a mistake mainly because we found ourselves with very little time to visit all the places in London that we wanted to see.

Pros:"The countryside, Architecture, Pubs, English accent!"
Cons:"London traffic, M1 congestion, Heathrow Terminal 5, Expensive"
In A Nutshell:"A beautiful country in search of good weather."
