To get inside the market area. You have to buy ticket that costs Elbs 20 plus if you want to take photos it costs Elbs 10 in addition. So, if you are in a group, pay for one camera instead to make it cheaper.

When camels run about can be really dangerous to be stepped over. So always keep an eye around. We had to run out of their ways coupla times. To rein in their movements one of their legs are tied up like this. But even after that its hard to control a large number of animals.

The market is open every day. Monday and Friday Markets are usually bigger, which means, more camels are on show and sale.

By the way, many chaep eateries in Cairo may serve or mix Camel meat in their kebab. Camel meat is not known as a delicacy.

As lonely planet guidebook suggests, camel market is really something to experience. If you stay at Sun Hotel, which by the way a budget hotel and hostel type accommodation, you can take advantage of their daily tour at 7,30 in the morning.

We experienced an owner beating up a camel severely, that it started vomiting the grass it had eaten. So, the environment may not be that organized and nice. But thats how the business is there.

There are camels of different colors, perhaps specify the area of their origin. Some of them (particulary the smaller ones) also walks free without having their legs tied up).

In the market area, there are tea-stalls, where you can sip a little while waiting for the cab driver's return (he is around and say that you have an hour to explore). Normally, an hour is more than enough.

Even though we paid at the entrance of the market, a camel owner asked for 'bakshish' (tips) from us since we were taking photos. Don pay and its not necessary.

You wont see people bying and selling in the market area there are offices where the negotiation continues. The ill-treatment of animals is regretable. Sometimes we felt, the camles are severely beaten up just perhaps their owners don have much to do.
