It was a pity that I could not see the famous Gold Museum in Bogota. Out of my three days in Bogota from Saturday-Monday, I only had time of my own to explore the city on Monday and that day museum is closed. This museum is said to have one of the largest pre-columbina gold-artifacts. Perhaps another time if that comes by.

Most of the tourist sights of Bogota are in the historic central neighborhood of La Candelaria. With some modern infill many of the houses are well-preserved in colonial style. Some of the are two storeys and most of them are tiled roofs. Some of them with projecting eaves, wrought ironwork and carved balconies.

The Plaza Bolivar is at the heart of the city which has a statue of the liberator at its centre. On the northern side of the Plaza Bolivar is Corte Suprema de Justica, wrecked in a guerrilla attack in 1985 and newly built in 1999.

The cathedral which was rebuilt in in 1807-1823 in classical style has a notable choir loft of carved walnut and wrought silver on the altar of the chapel of El Topo.

Biblioteca Luis Angel Arango is one of the best endowed and arranged in South America with three reading rooms, research rooms, art galleries and a concert hall. There are exhibitions and regular concerts. There is a good cafeteria on the sixth floor. Entrance: free.

There are several public and private universities inside the old town area which gives it a feel of of student area. The picture shows one of them.

The old town does not have many plaza or square in it. But here one I found while walking around in the morning and it seems like this is preserved and lead to the narrower streets of the old town.

The old town has also its share on narrower stoned streets built on the hill with preserved colonial houses.

Not all parts of the old town is maintained as a uninhibited museum. Since its also an active working and studying area, part of the towns are well-maintained for convenience, destroying a little of museum-taste.

And at some part of the town you also find the imposing structure of modern highrise. But these establishment are usually built / rebult at the edge of the old town,.
