Dublin is the first thing you normally see when you visit Ireland. You cán fly to other cities in the country, but the capital is the most common. The city was founded around the year 1.000 A.D. and has grown enormously in the last century. Today it is a huge city with more than 1 million inhabitants.
Dublin is the heart of the country. The government is seated here, the presidential palace is in the capital and the most of all the cultural activities take place in Dublin. This is why you should never miss the city when you visit Ireland..
Even though Dublin is not one of the most spectacular cities in Europe -to my opinion- it definitely is worth it to spend at least two days there. The beautiful area in and around Trinity College, the old Dublin Castle and some nice old churches and cathedrals are some architectural highlights. The Ha' Penny Bridge is one of the picturesque places around the Liffey-river that divides the city into two, and Temple Bar is one of the most popular nightlife area's in Europe. And of course there is the peaceful park St. Stephen's Green and the hectic shopping street O'Connell Street. |

I think I should go to Dublin, as flights are cheap:) Btw, you are coutchsurfing member :) I am member of hospitalityclub, organisation with the same ideas :) Have you had guests at your place? | HORSCHECK Tue Jul 17, 2007 17:30 UTC Pieter, fabulous little page with lovely photos of Dublin. I especially like your accomodation tip. The concept of couchsurfing sounds similar to the one of hospitalityclub.org. Keep up the good work. :-) |
