  • The company Timhotel has nine hotels throughout Paris. I stayed in the one called "Opera Madeleine". I didn´t expect much of this hotel, because there is not much to expect for a price of only € 69,- for a double bedroom. But I was wrong.

The hotel is very clean, looks really good and the service was pleasant. The room was spacious, with not two, but three beds, a desk, a closet and lots of space between the beds. The bathroom was very clean too, with a shower, a toilet and a sink.

The view was very nice too. No dirty little alley outside of your window, but a nice, wide avenue and a view at the St. Lazare railway-station.

I didn´t have breakfast in the hotel, I went across the street, to the Starbucks, to have my breakfast. So I don´t know if the breakfast in the hotel is worth the € 8,50 they ask for it.

Unique Qualities: The best thing about this hotel definately is it´s location. It´s about 300 metres away from the Opéra Garnier, about 600 metres from the Madeleine and 600 metres from the large warehouses Printemps and Galeries Lafayette.

The railwaystation is across the street, the metrostation St. Lazare (that is connected to three metro-lines) is just outside the door, the bus stops in front of the hotel, and there are lots of cafe´s and restaurants across the hotel.

  • Paris Timhotel Palais Royal Louvre
  • The Louvre is only 5 minutes away

  • I only decided to go to Paris two days before the trip, so I was just looking for a decent hotel, with a cheap price and a good location towards the centre. I found this hotel, in the 2nd arrondissement, at 5 minutes walking from the Louvre.

The price was very good, only € 72,- for a room. It was a special offer. And what made it even better was the fact that we had a superior room: just a bit better and more spacious then a normal room. The hotel only has 2 stars, but looking at the room, you would think they have more.

Unique Qualities: +++ Location: close to Palais Royal (4 minutes walking), close to metrostation Bourse, (1 minute) and close to the Louvre (5 minutes).

    - - - Breakfast: the breakfast costed € 6,50 per person and was quite poor according to the price. No warm food, waiting for bread to be added, and no service what so ever. Tip: just find a nice place to eat outside of the hotel, just as expensive and much better.

  • Hotel Rex is a cheap, but decent hotel in the centre of Paris, close to the big warehouses Galeries Lafayette and Printemps. It is situated in a quiet street with a dead end, so no loud noises to interrupt you in your sleep. The rooms are very simple, old and typically French. Breakfast is simple too: just the normal French bread with jam and Nutella, and some orange juice and coffee.

Unique Qualities: Hotel Rex is a good hotel for people with a small budget. Please notice the fact that there is a possibility of being transferred to another hotel of the Rex group. They have two more hotels in the neighbourhood of this one, but normally you´re placed in the hotel you´ve booked.

  • Hotel Jardins de Paris Republique is situated in the east of Paris, between Gare de l'Est and Place de la République. It's quite a small hotel with about 30 rooms, all situated around an open garden in the middle of the building. Every room faces this little patio. This way, you don't have the noise of traffic from the roads, and you have a peaceful view of the patio.

The rooms are simple like many other hotels of its kind in Paris. Two nice beds, a small bathroom with a bath, a tiny TV and a tiny desk. The rooms looks proper and the service of the personnel is good.

Unique Qualities: The best thing about this hotel though has nothing to do with the hotel itself, but with its surrounding. At 50 metres from the hotel is the Canal Saint Martin. Walking along this channel in the morning after you leave the hotel is a great thing. The area is very peaceful and green, and really upgrades the value of the hotel.

  • Modern Hotel is not really the modern hotel you would expect with a name like that. In fact it´s the cheapest hotel in Paris as far as I know. It´s situated at a three minutes walk from the Père Lachaise Cemetary, and from the metro station with the same name.

The rooms are very poor. The room I slept in only had a bed, a broken chair and two huge holes in the walls. I think they were renovating the hotel in that period, but who knows how long that renovating would take. The breakfast was very poor too: a limited amount of bread for each table: like three pieces of French bread per person, some coffee and a few cups of strawberry jam, but well: the price was very cheap: € 50,- per room.

  • Camping Parc de la Colline is a very nice, green campground in the suburb of Torcy, 25 km´s east from Paris. Its name means Parc of the Hill, and the reason why is very clear as soon as you enter the Camping. You enter at the bottom, and from there it´s one way up a hill, so all the camping places are terraces. At the top of the hill there also are a lot of bungalows to rent. They have bungalows for max. 5 persons, and cabins for max. 6 persons.

The camping offers lots of good services, like a snackbar, a restaurant, a shop, a laundry and busservices towards the metro-station and Disneyland Paris. At 1 km. away from Parc de la Colline there is a lake where you can swim and practise watersports.

Unique Qualities: The best thing about Parc de la Colline is definitely its location. It´s situated very quietly in a green area outside of Paris. So it´s a nice place to relax. But at the same time it´s only 5 km. away from the RER-station Torcy, which can bring you directly towards the city-centre in less then 40 minutes. With the station there also is a big free parkingarea, so parking your car is no problem.

The centre of Paris is only 25 km. away and to the east, Disneyland Paris is only 15 km. away. A 15 minutes drive. But there also is a bus service, organised by the camping.

  • Hotel Stars Chilly-Mazarin is a hotel far outside the centre of Paris. Why would you ever go there? Because it is pretty close to Orly Airport, that's why. I searched for a hotel in this area when I needed to get an early airplane from Orly. It indeed is not that far from the airport distance-wise, but to be honest: when I look at how long it took me in the end to get to Orly, it would not have made a difference if I took a hotel in the centre of Paris.

The hotel is a very decent one and it's cheap. For a 1-person bedroom I paid 45 euro's and I got a nice, proper room for that with cable TV and a big bed. Breakfast was not included, but I didn't need that anyway. The personnel was very friendly and down in the bar it was nice chatting with other guests, mostly businesspeople.

Concluding: it's a nice hotel, a good price, but there is no reason to go there if you are staying in Paris, and not even when you are flying from Orly.
