Local Customs: The Sea Festival - Dni Morza

Though Szczecin is situated about 60 km from the Baltic coast - the maritime character of Szczecin can be seen here. We have shipyards, the Maritime University ( and its students going on the streets , wearing uniforms ), in the middle of the city there is a marina.
We have also the Sea Festival. Then you can see the gala of sailing vessels, many concerst, the display of fire works.
The Szczecin's City Council have set the permanent term, when the Sea Festival in Szczecin will take place each year. It is organised in the second weekend ( from Friday till Sunday) of each June annually.

Local Customs: Opera on the Castle - The Great Contest of Tenors

In the Castle of the Pomeranian Dukes there is an opera. Each year during summer ( usually in the end of July) there is organised a great concert and contest of the Tenor vocalists. If the weather allows, it takes place in the courtyard. The audience are given roses and after hearing the aria of each contestant, vote for his/her favourite one by putting the flower to his basket. It's really a nice concert.

If you like to dance salsa, it's a tip for you. In Szczecin there are a few good schools of this sort of dancing, also some clubs specialise in this sort of music. Some salsa dancers have a custom to gather each Friday at 8 p.m. from April til September at Jasne Blonia under "the Monument of Tree Eagles" and dance. Everone can join.

The Sea Festival - Dni Morza consists of gala of sailing vessels, many concerst, the display of fire works, the theme park. The inhabitants and visitors have an opportunity to visit Lasztownia island , which has a great vies at Waly Chrobrego at the other side of Odra river.
Sea Festival is organised in the second weekend ( from Friday till Sunday) of each June annually.

Students Festival - Juwenalia - is celebrated in the May in all academic cities in Poland.
Here in Szczecin we also have a lot of fun these days.
In Szczecin there are a few public universities and some private ones.
In Szczecin ( a city which has 416.000 inhabitants) there are over 90.000 students. There are 17 shools of higher ecucation in Szczecin - a few national universities and several private ones.

Local Customs: The Street Artists Festival

The Street Artists Festival is a colourful holiday celebration of theatre embellishing the streets of Szczecin and inviting everyone to common fun. There are presentations of theatres, street actions and happenings, there were also exhibitions, artistic workshops and performances presented in buildings.
The Street Artists Festival is the biggest artistic enterprise realised by the Kana Theatre Association. Several hundred artists from Poland and abroad participate in it, and there are several dozens of volunteers working for the festival.
It takes plase during summer - generally at the beginning of July.

Twins, triplets, and quadruplets from across the European continent and all of the world are all invited for a weekend of fun and festivities - celebrating the most loved and the most special people. This festival is organised annually in Szczecin for a few years so far and each year is getting more and more popular.
Expect a twin barbecue, twin bonfire, twin talent contest, twin bonding and much more.
To be invited you have to be a twin or multiple!
It takes place each August.

Jarmark Anny i Boguslawa
The 2nd Anna and Boguslaw’s Fair.
This year 2005 it took place in August.
Anna and Boguslaw are the names of prince couple who once owned Pomeranian Dukes' Castle and ruled in the Pomerania.
This fair is something new in Szczecin. In 2005 it was organised for the second time.
The description sounds interestingly:
"The 2nd Anna and Boguslaw’s Fair shall be opened by solemn wedding cere-mony of Anna and Boguslaw that will take place at the Boguslaw’s Promenade. After the wedding ceremony the wedding procession will pass along Szczecin streets heading for the courtyard of the Castle of the Pomeranian Dukes.24-25.08The Sabbath soirées i.e. Concerts of Jewish Songs.26.08 The concert by the invited guests and actors of the Polish Theatre.27.08 Culinary Show featuring stars of the Polish cuisine , the Polish Theatre performance.28.08 The gala concert featuring performers from the Piwnica pod Baranami [Cellar under Rams] and actors of the Polish Theatre, ending the II nd Anna and Boguslaw’s Fair."
