Aizkraukle is situated on the high right bank of the Daugava River.
It's one of the newest towns in Latvia. History of Aizkraukle begans in the sixties as the village of Stučka, which housed the builders of the nearby hydroelectric power plant of Pďaviňas. It became a town in 1967. but in 1991 it was renamed Aizkraukle, which is a historic local name. |
