Kyoto is the home of the famous Gion District and Giesha Girls. About a year and a half into a young girl's training, she becomes a Meiko, then when she turns 20 she becomes a Giesha.
It is a rigorous several years of training, and few girls are interested in it these days.
Giesha may perform traditional Japanese dances, play an instrument, or perform the tea ceremony, depending on what the customer asks for. |

Stephen-KarenConn Mon Nov 27, 2006 23:18 UTC Very interesting page. I've been to Japan twice, but Kyoto is still on the list of places I would like to see. | dabidc Tue Apr 26, 2005 03:30 UTC Wylene, thanks for the chance to see some of the beauty and the history of Kyoto. So different from the west and also very different again if you do go to Rio. Enjoy Rafael's pages. |
