Schleswig-Holstein is the northernmost state in Germany, conveniently sandwiched between Hamburg and the Danish border.
Schleswig-Holstein is loaded with fascinating museums and points of interest related to Holstein's royal past--like Gottorf Castle in the town of Schleswig, built by Friedrich II.
Walk the visitor-friendly streets of small town Germany, including the town of Arnis--the smallest incorporated city in the country--Schleswig, the capital of Schleswig-Holstein until 1945, and the small fishing village of Holm on the banks of the Schlei.
- Pros:Easy autobahn access from Hamburg, excellent side trip from Hamburg, historic, good summer weather, near-constant breeze

It's amazing to see that US visitors know small villages like Holm, which is fairly unknown to many Germans. Having been with the Navy along the coastal lines of the Baltic Sea you awakened memories on Flensburg,Denmark and all these little cozy villages.
You've got a very good view of this place. After browsing your page, visiting a "Hallig" myself I guess should be on my list for this year... BTW: Is the Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo still there?
Lovely page! Great overview of this nice country!!
Super Holsteiner Fotos!
Hmmm... Schleswig-Holstein is a quite nice state. Nice photos, great tips!

Fabulous 'cover page' photo of Oland, Mike. You are one terrific tour guide through the lesser-known parts of Germany!
Great info and photos again mike, careful for the tide coming in though!
