Back in the late '80's my (now) husband worked at the British Embassy in Bangkok. I therefore had the opportunity to live in this amazing city for a short time.

I have returned several times since, and each time I'm amazed by the changes that have happened. As the British Embassy is located at Wireless Road near the start of Sumhumvit, we tend to stay in this part of the city.

The new sky train has completely changed the area, and each time I return there is a new hotel or shopping complex being built.

Back in 1989 if I got lost I used to try to see where the 'Spike' on the Dusit Thani hotel was to get my bearings; today it is one of the smaller buildings around!

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:24 hour city with fantastic sites and shopping
  • Cons:Nightmare traffic and pollution (better than it used to be!)
  • In a nutshell:You can be a lot of things in Bangkok, but bored isn't one of them!
