As usual, we located a hotel in the center of town. The Plaza San Martin seemed to us to be the place to be. The plaza is dominated by the main Catedral. It also has the typical grass, benches, trees, statue, etc. A very nice place to sit or stroll. Cordoba has more than its share of churches, museums and a quantity of colonial buildings. The area around the plaza is a great place to wander around. Cordoba has grand old architecture, shopping centers as well as pedestrian malls, tours are available to outlying areas and within the city itself. It's a place to spend some time if you have it. On a lighter side, we noted no mate (tea so popular in Uruguay and other parts of Argentina) drinkers, very few dogs on the streets, comparatively few beggers (and no confrontations), lots of ATM's, many stores/restaurants closed for siesta, performers/bands in and around the plaza, the internet typically was 1peso per hour and on Sunday the area around the plaza is pretty deserted. Cordoba is an interesting and diverse place to visit. |
