Hamburg is a second largest city in Germany; the sity of bridges ( 2123 if I am not wrong) and the city of millionaires ( "not even the tax authorities know how many?" I read in one book).
Hamburg has 1.7 million inhabitants, living in 104 districts. It has 21 nature reserves, expanses of water totaling 60sq km.
Famous theaters, such as the Deutsches Schauspielhaus are based here, the Hamburg State Opera, as are 10 universities, 60 museums, Hamburg Football Club (HSV), etc.
The weather: I really can't say anything for the summer, but winter is very cloudy and windy. It rearly snows. I don't remember seeing any sun during the time I spent there. For my taste I'd say that the weather is a bit depressing!

Not sure if somebody has told you since you built your Hamburg pages, but the guy in the "Street Scene" represents Hans Hummel (actual name: Johann Wilhelm Bentz, 1787 - 1854), a grumpy water carrier and creator of the idiosincratic Hamburg-way of saying "Hello": "Hummel Hummel" - "Mors Mors".
Kids mocked him by calling him "bumble-bee, bumble-bee" (Hummel, Hummel), maybe because he was grumbling so much, to which he responded "Mors Mors" (Low German for arse arse).
Ah wait, had already said so, skipped it the first time I was reading through the comments.
nice Hamburg pages!
Sasvim slucajno, fotografiju koju nisi ti pravila, sam napravio! Pozdrav
Really helpful info here Andrea! Thanks! :) btw. the statue in the street scene photo is Hans Hummel, the famous Hamburg watercarrier!
good into. we were going to the ice world this year, but the flight was cancelled by dasterdly ryanair
...gostei muito de rever a tua pagina de Hamburgo! beijinhos
With regard to the painted statues, I believe it is a municipal charity fundraising activity. I have seen similar events in other cities with painted pigs, bears, and other characters. The painted sculptures are sponsored by various local companies.
Nice pics, facts and travelogues on Hamburg Andrea! Yet another really nice page... :)
Great page with nice photos and good tips! Yes, the ice sculptures are really amazing!
Very nice page Andrea, your tips are very useful. Well done!
