Beautiful Portugal

Lisbon
Abandoned by history after having been a leading player, Portugal is pursuing the modern world sorrowful awareness known locally as saudade. Nothing will ever again be as it was in those three hundred years that saw the discovery of the new worlds, Portugal was a great power then dividing the globe with Spain and England; Lisbon used to be the heart of that formidable cultural and economical renewal that traveled the ocean routes, the capital of a boundless empire. But the decline of colonialism shattered the great dream and Portugal became once more a splendid, sentimental little nation on the margins of Europe. That extraordinary adventure has left permanent marks in the robust and enterprising spirit of the Portuguese people, in the luminous architecture of some parts of Lisbon, even in the full bodied wines produced at Porto. The new Portuguese frontier no longer lies thousands of miles away, on the other side of the ocean. It is just around the corner, on the beaches of golden sand, in the tracks of a picturesque inner land, on the stylish streets of Baixa, or in the rising and falling Bairo Alto. These are the new routes of wealth, trod by the tourists, who are discovering the beauty and charm of the land of great navigators.

I’ve been in Portugal few times already, but unfortunately in most of the places I visited I didn’t have the chance to stay long enough and take enough photos to make good VT pages. But on this Portugal page I’d like to give you brief information about the places I found to be interesting.
Since I love buying postcards wherever I go, this VT page will have postcards instead of photos.
Hope you enjoy reading my page!
