Getting TO/AROUND: During my last visit to Sydney we thought we'd wait for the city ferry. Waste of time. You are better off grabbing a Matilda ferry between Darling Harbour and Circular Quay. They are cheaper and run more regularly.

Walking: Walking is the best way
  • Tip Rating:

    Category: Other
Getting TO/AROUND: Walking is the best way of seeing many of the main attractions of Sydney. Most of the main tourist sights - such as the Harbour Bridge, Circular Quay, Opera House, Darling Harbour, The Rocks, and the Royal Botanic Gardens - lie on the perimeter surrounding the central business district and are within easy walking distance over a period of several days. Other attractions, such as the Centerpoint Tower, Queen Victoria Building and dozens of historical buildings are also within the CBD.

You don't have to be fit as you can always jump on to public transport at any stage.

    Monorail: The Monorail
  • Tip Rating:
  • 'Mode': AROUND
    Category: Train
Getting TO/AROUND: A Monorail service operates around the CBD and down to Darling Harbour. It is little more than a tourist trolley really and not many locals use it. If you don't mind walking you may be better off saving your money, although on a wet day, I'm sure the Monorail would be handy.

    Monorail stations:

    1. City Centre
    2. Darling Park
    3. Harbourside
    4. Darling Harbour Exhibition and Convention
    5. Haymarket
    6. World Square
    7. Park Plaza
