I probably go to Amsterdam 2-3 times a year and have done for a few years now.
I have visited all the tourist places and now spend my time just wandering and soaking up the peaceful and fun atmosphere. I also take train trips to other cities as the trains are excellent and most places in Holland can be visited in a day. |
Western Canal Rings This is where I spend most of time. It is very pretty, full of wonderful shops, bars and restaurants and is never really busy with tourists.
The canals are Singel, Herengracht, Keizergract and Prinsengracht. They stretch from the Brouwersgract down to the Amstel.
You can sit by the water watching the people and boats whilst having lunch or a drink. You can visit boutiques, food shops, brown cafes, restaurants, bars, in fact everything you need.
A boat trip might be nice but you don't really get to know or see the area properly.
Take time out from the Anne Frank brigade and just wander. |
