We have visited Norway four times now. First in 2001 when we visited Oslo, Bergen and Stavanger, travelling by train across the spectacular mountains between Oslo and Bergen, and then by boat along the coast between Bergen and Stavanger. Our latest trip, in May 2007, was to the far north of the country, travelling by ferry and train from Tromso to Trondheim via the stunningly beautiful Lofoten islands (see travelogue below for details). |

| | ... but expensive Norway is incredibly beautiful, but also incredibly expensive (I guess all that scenery costs a lot to maintain!). Which is a shame, as it can rather take the edge off of your enjoyment when you are constantly worrying about the cost of your meal or glass of beer (up to GBP5.40 / EUR 8.00 for a 40cl glass). We normally like to drink wine with our meals, but not in Norway as it is prohibitively expensive. So if you do decide to splash out (ok - we did twice in two weeks on our last trip) it is best to take a photo to record the event! |
| | A maritime nation Norway is almost all coast, so the sea is very important. You can't really go to Norway and not take a boat trip, and we have done several now. It is a fantastic way to travel, and the scenery is stunning. |
