Not often Dave gets inspired like this Our first sight of Tallinn was very early one Saturday morning in the summer of 1999. We had arrived on the overnight sleeper from St. Petersburg.
After acquiring some Estonian Kroons from the ATM (ain't technology wonderful), and coffee and cake for breakfast in the station cafe, we took a taxi to our hotel, dropped the luggage and went for a walk. It wasn't even 8am by then. This is VERY unusual for us.
I fell in love with Tallinn. There is no other phrase for it. Whether it was the contrast from St Petersburg, the weather - which was fabulous, or the peace and quiet of the early morning, Tallinn is a city about which I can wax lyrical.
When we got back home after this trip we both joked about working for the Estonian tourist board!
Hopefully, Tallinn won't be overrun by British stag parties going over for the cheap beer. (yes some of us could be worse than the Finns! even in smaller numbers)
We've been back since and the initial feeling hasn't been dimmed.
Only problem is I guess after 2004 won't get a stamp in the passport any more as a reminder. Ah well.
