"Bristol" Bristol by deptlads

We stayed in Bristol for the weekend at the end of our 85 mile narrowboat trip along the Kennet & Avon Canal.

I have visited Bristol numerous times for work, but had never really looked around the city. We were pleasantly surprised. There is a lot to see and do here, and the harbour area is particularly attractive and engaging. Not least the excellently presented SS Great Britain.

We arrived on Friday afternoon, and moored up right in the centre of the floating harbour at Bordeaux Quay. I have to say that I was a little apprehensive about mooring right in the middle of the "entertainment" district at the weekend, but actually it was not that bad. There was some rowdyness from the clubs and bars along the waterfront, but it was not so bad that we couldn't get to sleep.

The Saturday night we had to leave the boat to make way for the return crew, so we had a very welcome (and pretty cheap) night in a 5-star hotel nearby. A great way to end a week of hard labour on the canals - a luxury hotel room with a huge double bed, fresh clean linen, a bath (wonderful) and bathrobes etc.
