We live here, we work here.
There is so much material on London here on VT that we don't really feel that we need to add to it. We'd rather expend our energies on telling you about other places we have been to. (However, we have included a few well researched transportation tips to help you get to grips with Travelcards and the like, and a few other choice tips for some less well-known attractions.)
It is a common axiom that you don't appreciate the place where you live. That doesn't seem to apply to many of the VT contributors who provide such excellent information on their home towns (for which many thanks!), but not for London. This is partly because it is such a huge city - there isn't a great sense of "ownership". Also, because we get such large numbers of visitors (over 11.5 million a year from outside the UK), we are often loath to tell you about the really special places we like - that would be counter-productive!
It is ironic that wherever we go on our travels, people say
"but you live in London, why would you want to come HERE?!". Whereas we are usually thinking
"isn't it great to be out of London".
It is a "Love-Hate" thing, of course, and there are many aspects of London that we value greatly (access to an unparallelled variety of classical music is just one which comes to mind). But when we visit some of the "smaller" places in Europe we can't help thinking that we are missing out on something.
We can quite understand why other people dream of coming to London; but when you live here you don't feel quite the same way about it.
But you'll come anyway! And you will love it!
