Worth Matravers is a small, typical Purbeck village about 5 miles from Swanage. It is popular with walkers, and is perhaps best known for its excellent and unusual pub - the Square and Compasses (see tip below). |

| | The village is sited on a ridge overlooking the sea, which is about half a mile away. The typical Purbeck limestone cottages are clustered around a tiny duck pond and village green. It is ridiculously picturesque. More pictures here: picasaweb.google.co.uk/deptfordlads/Purbeck4WorthMatravers |

| | Although the village is not very well connected, it is possible to use the twice daily bus service from Swanage (route 144) to visit for a couple of hours - enough time to sample the beer, cider and pasties at the Square and Compasses. The bus leaves Swanage (outside the station) at 12:25 pm, and the return service leaves the village at 14:19. The trip from Swanage takes about 20 minutes. |
