We first visited Oslo in July 2001. That time we arrived by boat (from Copenhagen), and departed by train (to Bergen). Our next trip, summer 2004, was more of a flying visit, as we are only going for a long weekend. In summer 2005 we had another few days in the city as part of a friend's peripatetic birthday party.
Oslo is a pleasant city. Not too big, and in a wonderful setting at the head of Oslofjord surrounded by mountains. It has a very "cultured" feel about it, which is probably just as well given how expensive everything is! There are excellent museums, a charming waterfront, interesting architecture, and beautiful upland countryside within easy reach of the city centre (two of the metro lines extend right out into the Nordmarka inland to the north of the city). |

FletteMette Mon Sep 3, 2007 17:30 UTC The only species of whale being hunted in Norway is the minke whale - less than 700 minke whales are being caught here annually, from a population of ca 110000 animals (IWC Scientific Committee 2004). I'm enjoying your Norway pages!!:o) ~Mette | ruffen Thu Oct 20, 2005 13:53 UTC Our Kval-meat is not from endangered species; fixed quote(?) for every boat/year (as it is with cod & other "endangered" fish). There is an old gay club near Bondeheimen. You had a view to the new opera house (under construction) too from Byporten. | littlesam1 Wed Jun 29, 2005 20:22 UTC I was in Oslo in March and had a wonderful time. |
