| Place de la Comédie, Montpellier |
We had a short overnight stop in Montpellier on our way to Barcelona by train (from London). Unfortunately, due to a grève générale in France the day we travelled, we did not arrive until quite late in the evening (10pm), so we did not get as much time in this charming city as we had planned. |
| Alleyway in the old town, Montpellier |
| | Fortunately, we had booked a room at a very central hotel (New Hotel du Midi) right by the Place de la Comédie - the main central square on the edge of the old town. It was easy to find a place to eat even at 11pm on a Thursday evening (we chose a well-established crepe restaurant), after which we had a very pleasant stroll through the old town. The narrow alleyways are particularly well-lit, so it feels safe and is fun to explore. |
| | The following day we had enough time before our afternoon train to Barcelona to have a good look around the city centre (particularly the old town). This is a really enjoyable place just to wander around in, but the highlight has to be the impressive aqueduct that comes into the north western edge of the city.
We have already decided that we need to return to Montpellier! |
