I got stuck in Louisiana for a few years while I attended LSU. In a period of 3 years, I got married.. divorced and saw more organized crime than I probably should have.
New Orleans is like something out of a movie.. the experiences that you have there are so surreal, even when its your real, every day life.
Racial and economic bias is a way of life here. All of the races seem to hate each other and try to go out of their way to remind you. There is so much animosity among the white middle and upper class towards poor whites. It seems as if EVERYONE is just trying to con someone else. Interracial relationships are not only frowned upon, but you will get harrassed. When my asian bf and I went into a bar in the french quarter, the bartender caught a glimpse of my star of david and yelled out, "we don't serve no gooks or jews here." |

I grew up in New Orleans. I saw it go down the tubes year by year after intergration of the school system and white flight. It makes me want to cry, That was once such a grand city. The quarters and riverfront , and lakefront are still OK. | rwlittle Sat Jul 10, 2004 03:39 UTC
