"The island of Isabella" Isola Bella by Manara

Isola Bella Travel Guide: 39 reviews and 135 photos

Isola Bella means Beautiful Island in Italian, and although the name tells the truth, its origin is not in the beauty of this place.

The Count Charles III Borromeo who bought this island to build there his palace, renamed it to honour his wife, Isabella.

This island is in Lago Maggiore. If you are interested, you will learn something more about this beautiful lake and its other islands by reading my tips.

Interesting to learn why and how such a grand palace was built on a small island. Up to now I have only seen Lago Maggiore from the train window. Must return sometime for a proper look.

Hi Anna - At first glance I thought that was a spray of water - nope, the extraordinary white peacock - and you caught it in full spread - just beautiful! Ok, on to Magiore with you now.

This place is spectacular ( again love the pheasant - male ) and your pictures and commentary are so enlightening. On the other, Isola dei Pescatore looks like a perfect village indeed. Thanks for sharing. N.

I am impressed. You write so little and at the same time you say so much!
