A dedicated traveller

by Manara - last update: Nov 5, 2009

I travel quite often for work and sometimes I use for my holidays the knowledge I have got on business trips. If you are curious about my job, I work for an international medical association, and most of my time is devoted to planning and organising its large congresses, that are held in a different country every year. That's how I happen to know so many hotels.

With time I have become tired of packing and unpacking too often, so I now prefer holidays in which I stay in a place and make one-day trips in the region.
I am also a bit tired of hotels. They are great for a short stay, but for a longer holiday (one week or more) the privacy and the larger space of an apartment or a cottage is much better. For this reason I am a happy share-holder in a big, well established company of shared properties, so from 1999 until now I have spent holidays in "my" apartments in Munich, Amsterdam, Vienna, London, the Alps (Swiss, Austrian and French), and by Lake Maggiore. It is essential, of course, to have a travel companion who is willing to share equally the house chores, but I am lucky with this regard.

I am not photogenic, so I never liked being in front of a camera. This means I do not have many recent pictures of me. Anyway you will fid some pictures of me in some of my travel tips.
Chamonix-Mont-Blanc

My most recent holidays

Among my pages the ones with more tips are those on locations I have visited many times, or the ones where I have been on holiday. I spent the last summer holidays, as well as those of 2008, in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, so I have created a page about it, and about some villages I have visited while I was there: Les Praz, Argentiere, Servoz, Vallorcine, Montroc.
Whereas there were already several pages about Chamonix, the other locations had no page at all on this website. I like being the first to post some pictures and info about places that so far were just names on a database and a map.
Col du Grand Saint Bernard
During my summer holidays in Chamonix I have crossed the border sometimes and made trips to Switzerland, so I put together new pictures and ideas with older pictures I had taken during other holidays in the Swiss Alps and I have created a page on this region.
Stresa and the Borromee Islands

Other recent pages and tips

Since I keep going back to cities I have already been to, I often update my pages and add tips to them. For instance I have done this with my Stresa page after my latest visit there in late May. There is no picture of Stresa in the mosaic at the top of this page, because I have put in it only pictures from my trips abroad.

Among my most recently created pages, instead, is the one about Skopje, where I have been for the first time in October 2008.
My most recent trip was to San Diego. So far I have written only a couple of tips about restaurants and posted a few pictures, but I will soon add more.

More about me

Some people say that the contents of a woman's bag can tell a lot about her personality. I am not sure, but I don't have a problem with disclosing the contents of my bag to you, in case it helps you to know me better.
