This is probably one of the barest places i have ever been, though it is stunningly beautiful. We spent a week playing badminton in Walvis Bay after driving up through Botswana, via Gobabis and Windhoek.
Although the towns and cities are all relatively small, there is no lack of tourist entertainment. Quad biking is available in Swakopmund and Walvis, and there is also a operator in between the two towns. Most places also offer sandboarding, which is fun, but it took us three days to get all the sand off our bodies! Be warned!
The tourist info centers are also very helpful, and almost all Namibians speak fluent english, making conversation easy. Marienthal and Keetmanshoop are also worth visiting.
The highlights of the trip were Sossusvlei, which has a fair amount of wildlife, and the Fish River canyon, which is the second largest in the world. There is a resort situated South of the canyon which also has hot springs (Ai-Ais).
Unfortunately we didn't have the oppurtunity to get up to the Caprivi strip, or the Okovango, but that will be my first stop on my next trip there, hopefull soon!
