First impressions... | The main shopping street. All paved, no cars! |
Well, my first impression of Kiel wasn't all that good, to be honest. From what i'd heard form my parents (who'd visited here), it was supposed to be fantastic! But coming in on the train from Lübeck, it looked like a pure industrial town, and the train station was being renovated, so that looked rubbish too.
Luckily, first impressions don't always last, hey? |
| Prince Heinrich Brucke. massive |
| | A better perspective: Well, now that i've seen a bit more of the city, i've changed my mind! The center of town is loaded with shops, and markets everywhere, and lakes in the middle of the city, and... i could go on. It's a surprisingly big city too, with a population of about 275,000. i walked twice across it, and worked it out at about 18km that i'd walked in a day. |
| At Altenau... beautiful tall ships |
| | Final thoughts Kiel is definitely worth visiting, if you're up near Hamburg, or flying into Lübeck, go and have a look, it's only 1 - 2 hours by train. And the Kiel channel is definitely worth seeing too! HUGE ships coming into the docks, through the water-ways. fantastic.A useful webpage to have a look at is Kiel Only problem is that its all in German... |
