Our trip up to Durness is not one that i will easily forget! 5 of us left early on a Tuesday morning, all of us (being Myself, Helena, Dylan, Luke & Karel) very excited to be heading into kinda unknown territory... It all started well enough, leaving Ullapool early, in beautiful sunshine. Unfortunately the illusion was shattered 20 miles into the trip, when our front left tyre blew up... So anyway, after changing the tire (half an hour later), we continued on our merry way... About a mile outside Durness, our front right tyre blew up... :-p
Luckily the Scottish locals pulled through for us again. They really are one of the friendliest nations on earth!
While we were waiting for our car to be repaired, we took a walk along to Smoo Cave, which is amazing, and spent some time on their stunning beaches. We even ventured into the water once or twice, though i wouldn't recommend that to any but the hardiest adventurers!
Ardvreck Castle is halfway between Ullapool & Durness, and definitley worth seeing. Cape Wrath is also just 12 miles away from Durness, which we unfortunately didn't get to see (car trouble...)
As for Durness itself, theres not really that much to shout about, in all honesty. Theres a couple general stores, one or two pubs, and a small craft village...
- Pros:Beautiful scenery
- Cons:out of the way
- In a nutshell:Go, just to say you've been there

Anton, lovely little page with brilliant photos. I only made it up to Thurso and John O'Groats in this part of the Scottish Highlands.
an interesting and remote part of Scotland !
Lovely beaches. I nearly took a job teaching in the one-teacher school, but my mother wouldn't let me!
the surf there can be wonderful
