My sister and I didn't undertake the Inca-trail simply because we couldn't spare the time but next time I will, it's rated as a must. Anyway this is a shot of us two by the train in that station waiting to depart to Aguascalientes - a small village at the base of Machu Picchu, although very small, it is always buzzing with tourist and locals tryign to sell things to you. Prices are highly inflated too but the food's great. | | |
| Cusco's sunrise from the Bingham train |
This is a view of Cusco's sunrise - one of pure beauty. This confirms that Cusco, although poor by western standards really has the elements of an amazing city with a far stronger identity than most other cities worldwide. |
I decided I'd let a few pictures do the talking. There's no question that this is one of the world's finest sights. The mountain in the background is called Huayna Picchu (I think it's spelt like that) and it can be climbed, it's should only be attempted by the brave, it took about an hour to conquer. Once at the top you can see down on the majestic Macchu Picchu and it's design is something else! I should say that it's a little dangerous to climb Huayna - there is a register book for all clmibers and no one is admitted after I think 3pm. Through family I have heard of people going missing, there are narrow, steep muddy/rocky paths with very little support you must scale and if you slip you could fall a thousand feet to your death so be careful - worth every step though.
