Mengo - Nice Little Suburb of Kampala

Mengo is a district and town although seperate by name is really a part of Kampala, just a 'suburb'. It sits on a hill and from the few guest houses that are here you usually have a very nice view of Kampala. At night is the best, looking over the now somewhat quieter city with all the lights. I enjoy this section of town as it is a city in a city and we like to stay in a guesthouse here. The people at shops and restaurants know us now and welcome us like long lost friends each time we visit. It is so wonderful to see their smiling faces. There are a few things to see around here and we enjoying just walking around and meeting new shop owners and having a cold soda. At night a few places put the BBQ on the sidewalk and load the grill with chicken, beef or goat. You can't pass it up once you get a smell of grilling meat. Grab a cold drink and a piece of chicken on a bamboo skewer and you're set. Mmmm I can taste it now.
