| North Sailing Company about to leave! |
Husavik is a quaint little town in the north of Iceland. Nobody goes there without taking a whale watching tour. But there are a few other attractions not to be missed! One of the being the Phallological Museum of Iceland. Yes, from 1,7m tall whale to almost microscopic hamster's things... There's also a foreign section, with all sorts of things made of ceramic, postcards, the works... Humans awaited. There are 4 donations, from Uk, USA, Iceland and Germany. The letter from the american is hiliarious. "Elmo"! Can you imagine, it has a name (not the owners name, if you got what I mean)? Found something familiar in the foreign section, from the town where I studied from 5th til 12th grade. Has liquor in it. We got ourselves into a promise... to make a contribuition with another item from this town (they make them in ceramic, for several uses, including wine containers, jars, cups, football players, politicians... ). We have to find at least a 5 liter one. Hope they still make them, because some of the traditional factories are shutting down.
A most serious museum one should not miss is the Whale Museum. There's a lot to learn from the displays, the interactive computer programms, the videos, the skeletons. Read the story of Keiko - best know as Willy, from "Free Willy" the movie. Tragic! Don't forget to sign the guest book and add a "stop the killing" statement. It needs to be stopped for good. They make much more out of watching trips, rather than killing them, for " scientific reasons" or any other reason. |
