A home with a view at Gradil

by MFAMILY - last update: May 9, 2007

The suspended gardens of our Babylon

Home with front garden, Gradil
Having been born in medieval Óbidos, I´ve lived in Lisbon since 83. Mário was Lisbon born and raised. Kids we born in the big city, too.
In 1999 we came across this plot of land with a view. Gave us a lot of work to shape it. Looks a bit like the suspended gardens of Babylon, but what a hack, nobody would take the view away from us, when the plot in front was sold and a house built!
At Christmas of 2002 we moved in! In the meantime we had had a baby, Martim.

"The postcard has changed again"

A dutch friend, ex-colleague from a Boston branch of a company I once worked for, came in for a visit once. He sat on our living room for quite a while watching the view, which he said was like a postcard.
One of my cousins on her first visit said she´d love to see it on a heavy rain day.
I prefer those uncertain days when it´s sunny with high clouds and spots of rain. The result may be a beatiful rainbow. Or a double one. It happend already.
March fog

John Carpenter´s "The fog"

Besides the rainbow days, I love to wake early in the morning on a foggy day, like the one in the photo. At far almost looks like a lake.

Snow!!

This happened in the Lisbon area for the first time in 52 years.
Snow!!
Lasted about an hour, but didn´t even touch the ground.
A few Km to the north on higher lands it covered the sides of the roads.
Awesome!
Our living room

The room with the view

This is our living room.
Outside the window is our pool.
Inside, the fireplace is always burning in Winter.
Mike barking at the kids

Outside, at front

The water reaches above 30ºC in the summer. With a little help from our solar pannels, it reached 32 this summer. More would be too much.
Who wants to go out during the weekend? Not my kids!

We have these nice visitors.
Gigio, our cat. She died on Dec 10th 2006

The cat

Our cat, Mei Lin, better known as Gigio. She´s around 16 years old now.

Update: she passed away Dec 10th 2006
