"Coffee Bay...beautiful and secluded" Coffee Bay by kweg

Coffee Bay is out in the middle of nowhere...and it's great! It is accessible via Umtata through kilometres of rural, hilly roads or by helicoptor. I stayed at the Ocean View Hotel which is the only option besides The Coffee Shack (a backpackers). The hotel staff was impeccable and treated us like royalty. Two meals a day are included, the rooms are nice, and the resident hotel dogs make for a great experience. On-site amenties include a pool, trampoline, and private access to the beach.

The Ocean View Hotel provides all visitors with several excursions. I took advantage of the Micro-flight tour which is essentially a hangglider with an engine. At 1,000 feet above the ground I saw the goregous coastline and "Hole in the Wall" from a bird's perspective. I also took the oppurtunity to abseil (repell down a cliff) with Phil, one of the owners. After hiking to our cliff, we got strapped in and repelled into a rocky cove. Phil also took us to a local beach that was covered in hundreds of imaculate shells. The locals of Coffee Bay are extremely friendly and sell shell jewelery on the beach so don't forget your rand!
