The pearl of Andalucia | Giralda Tower (Part of Cathederal) |
Oh what a city, where to begin? I have been to Madrid several times, Ibiza, Marbella, but they don't come close to Sevilla. This is the crown jewel of Andalucia. I spent two days in the city which was actually sufficient to see the most important things. But you could easily spend more time without running out of things to do. I hear it's the hottest city in Spain, and the summer is brutal. I had great weather when I visited in November.
As far a sights go, you have to see the Chatedral. It's amazing. As far as size it's only slighty smaller than St Peter's in Rome, and a mish mash of architecht styles. Cristopher Columbus is buried in the church.
The Alcazar is another must. It's a former fortified royal castel with gothic, morrish influences. Admission includes access to the gardens. Unfortunately it was not bull fighting season when I visited. Walk about the pedstrian shopping streets.
Don't forget to visit the bullfighting ring (see picture below). It was not bullfighting season when I visited. The season goes from April through October. It's the most famous ring in Spain, and supposed to be a great experience.
The city also has two local soccer teams for anyone interested in spectator sports. |
| | Tapas The Tapas culture comes from Sevilla. That's all I ate for two days for lunch and dinner. Its' so affordable and fun to try different things every time. Most of the time I had no idea what I ordered, but loved it all. A Tapas dinner (3 Tapas size) and beer was about $12. You can also order the Tapas dishes in larger sizes, up to a full entre. Each places are well know for one or more dishes. So the best thing is to do a Tapas crawl from place to place. |
| | Flamenco I would also suggest to take in a Flamenco show. The Flamenco was born in Sevilla. I went to a place in the Arenal area for a show. It was very touristy, but still a great time. If you are driving to Sevilla, check first to make sure your hotel has a garage. Parking around town is difficult. |
