Visit my Live Webcam at Home ! - Great Panorama-View ! (Best time is in the morning local time ;-)
Hello,
in August 2003 I discovered VT and found it very inspiring - congratulation to this huge project! Unfortunatly I had already documented some of my journeys on my external Homepage in the years before (only in german language)
It would take me too much time to export everything to VT now, but in future I will use VT as an information platform.
My most exciting trips were to China (by backpack from Hongkong to Peking, Irkutsk, Novosibirsk, Moscow, Berlin) and Russia (Siberia): Several trips, longest took me 5 month through siberia. During this time I wrote a book with the most important experiences completely on birch bark, see:
My Book of Siberia (only in german)
When traveling I like to discover interesting or strange details off the beaten track. Nature(!), ecological conflicts, people, history and local culture (espec. music and instruments) are my main interests.
Southwest Germany
Rhineland-Palatine
City: Neustadt an der Weinstrasse
Neustadt an der Weinstrasse is located in the Pfalz (palatine), the Tuscany of Germany, surrounded by a sea of hillside vineyards. We have about 1800 hours of sun each year - and even more in good years - the mild climate do put one in mind of the Mediterranean. And when elsewhere the cold grey veil of winter is still clinging to the land, the German Wine Road is already bedecked with the tender greens and almond-blossom pinks of spring. The people of Gimmeldingen are not slow to respond: their Almond Blossom Festival is often celebrated as early as mid-March, the season when the delicate pink splendour, bathed in the pale clear sunshine of the early year, transforms the vineyarded landscape into a living water-colour. Thus begins the season of wine festivals, ending only when St. Martin cuts his cloak in two. For with the onset of November the golden glory of autumn begins to fade, and - later here than elsewhere - Jack Frost finds his way into the vineyards at last. That ís the way it is in the Palatinate; but who can feel sad about it?
My hometown attractions include a romantic Old Town with winding alleyways, and the nearby UNESCO Bioshere Reserve "Pfälzerwald" with a network of well-marked hiking trails. You can explore the vineyards and the Rhine plain by bike, join in the fun at the wine festivals that are held here almost every weekend between the spring and the autumn. The most important is every year in october: The German Wine Harvest Festival with the famous Haiselscher. The festival ends with a grand Wine-Grower’s Harvest Thanksgiving Parade.
Here you can have an overview on the many wine festivals we celebrate here:
"Palatine Wine Festivals"
The area is perfect for exploring germany off the beaten track! The people living here are known for their swinging life style. It has it's reason that in former days the king of bavaria used to spend his summer holidays here ;-)
The photograph shows the view out of my window at home (280mm tele lens):
In front plenty of wineyards, the beautiful small village "Hambach" and on the top of the hill the "Hambacher Schloss"

Hello Martin and welcome to VT! I´m really sorry that you´ve had to meet just in your beginning time to this stupid munich guy. I appreciate your way to manage it! Fortunately he is an exception here
My answer to Henkster - he is German: You wrote in a Forum: " I lived in the north too and I hated it. And not just the northern architeture. Most of all the arrogant and rude people there." Henkster, the problem was you as your comment shows!
Hello Martin, welcome to VT! Bin gespannt auf deine Reiseseiten, denn auch ich bin 2x mit der Transsib gefahren!
