Introduction I decided to write these notes after having read the "tourist traps" of this city. I live in Milan, but I'm not born here, so don't consider my comments as "coming from someone who loves this place". Instead I do not love this city much more than those who found themselves somehow "trapped".
First of all: Milan is expensive ... even for it's inhabitants. For a tourist it can become a money-nightmere just because the normal tourist cannot avoid certain things like "taking a taxi". If you can use buses/metro. Buy a daily ticket (3 EUR) and enjoy them. 20 minutes on a taxi can result in 30/40 EUR, be careful. |
Food and the restaurants As a tourist you probably espect to eat some of those special dishes for which Italy is famous. Pizza, pasta, fish, meat, you can find very good restaurants and reasonable prices (not low prices, forget them :) but NOT in the very center of the city that is Duomo, Galleria and Brera with some minor exceptions in Brera. As a rule valid everywhere, good reastaurants are not those filled with tourists but those "not filled" (but with a good number of persons within) with local people. You run the risk to pay a lot for a low (or at best average) quality of food and service. Pizza + beer + cake + coffee = 30 EUR in a very good restaurant. |

allylally Sat Nov 19, 2005 09:50 UTC sorry, i don't agree with you. There are gorgeous restaurants outside the city center, those in the center are just more expensive, that's it. |
