San Antonio is Texas' second largest city, and has the reputation of a very much fun loving town. And actually the city seems never to be sleeping but has always something going on, no matter when and where one is going to go. You can bet that somebody, somewhere is a host to any festival. San Antonio is the birthplace of Theodore Roosevelt's Rough Riders. Today San Antonio is a large Military center with Army & AF bases nearby. To my experience southern ppl are the kindest ppl ever anyway yet San Antonio's locals are able to top that very kindness. Perhaps it's something about the steady sunshine, the fresh air, and the San Antonio river that makes a fifteen mile horseshoe loop through the city. The city's amazing charme and beauty, represent absolutely the locals kindheartedness. I yet would say San Antonio is like Italy's Venice, a spot crowded by honeymooners, couples, or partying groups of any kind. As for solo travelers, or solo travelers with kids, I would not recommend that destination. In fact I most likely have been the only solo traveler there though I was lucky and came cross with great friends from Ft. Worth.
In 1821, Stephen F. Austin, known as the Father of Texas, made a contract to bring 300 families to the Spanish province, which now is Texas. By 1823, probably more than 600 to 700 people were in Texas, hardy colonists from the various portions of the United States at that time, who settled not far from the Gulf of Mexico. There was no regular army to protect them, so Austin called the citizens together and organized a group to provide the needed protection. Austin first referred to this group as the Rangers in 1823, for their duties compelled them to range over the entire country, thus giving rise to the service known as the Texas Rangers.
Give me a few Texas Rangers and I will get it done. Your men have never done it. The Rangers have never failed to do it.
-United States Senator from Texas Sam Houston, 1858, testifying before Congress about the ineffectiveness of the Frontier Guard
- Pros:Cavender's Boot City. The Buckhorn Saloon.
- Cons:Can't think of any.
- In a nutshell:San Antonio river that runs through town with romantic lighting & lush & foliage.

Great San Antonio tips. We love the River Walk and always stay at a hotel right on it. Safe travels from traveling Canadians!
Looks like you had a fun time in SA, but too bad you don't like Tex-Mex...
Most people find their own country unchallanging. Yup in USA I like SOUTH the best>but I prefer 1,000yr old Euro castles to 200 yr old bldgs & 10yr old strip malls here. Thats whats nice RE travel U can love what U wish.
Nice page and a lot of pictures!
