Irresistible because so rocky

by Maria250 - last update: Jun 27, 2008

Scottsdale is a very catching town! It's an irresistible spot because its rocky surroundings bring some wild western images to one's mind! Also Scottsdale's some what 'raw' looking Public Art is very inviting. Obviously not just for visiters but for residents too. The sculptures and many more of artworks are set throughout the intire City, along the roadways, in parks, in libraries, in public buildings, and in front of many stores.

Actually there's a "Public Art Program that was established in 1985 and is dedicated to enhancing urban spaces by commissioning art that creates a sense of place and improves the built environment..

Scottsdale has a long history of dedication and commitment to the arts. Some of the city's first settlers were artists, craftsmen, architects, art collectors, educators, and others who believed that art should be part of the.. community..

In the early 1970s Scottsdale commissioned artist Louise Nevelson to create a signature work for that town. Nevelson's 'Windows to the West' received one of the National Endowment for the first 'Art in Public Places'.
