Wuerzburg, most famous vineyards & wine festivals

by Maria250 - last update: Nov 5, 2008

View on Wuerzburg
For getting an idea of those famous vineyards, one only needs to imagine a beautiful wine trail along the green outskirts of Wuerzburg. While walking through the vineyards, samples of different types of wine are going to be offered. Wuerzburg is placed at the Main river. An old bridge connects the left part of the town with its inner city. On the right bank lies the Parish Church of St. Burkard (11th Century).
Marienberg
High above the Main river is beautifully found Wuerzburg's Marienberg (873 ft) which was the "Residenz" of the Prince-Bishop (13th Century). In the "Arsenal" of the fortress is the "Museum Of Eastern Franconia" (i.e. Tilman Riemenschneider). Since I made my visit there in early spring, this old Franconian city offered me its lovely sights, atmosphere, and French-style architecture in immensely chilly weather. Yet under a clear-blue-shiny sky.
Near Marktplatz
I wished to take a photo of Neumuenster Church with its Romanesque east end and a Baroque west end, and a figure of the virgin and a crucifix - it is told that the apostle of the Franks (Irish monk St. Kilian), was murdered there in about 700 - after all I wasn't sure whether I really got to the church I wished to take a photo of. For sure I got a wonderful walk on a very early Sunday morn' through a very sleepy town.

Amazingly Wuerzburg is closer to Hesse's Darmstadt than to Bavaria's Aschaffenburg. To make it to the town of Achaffenburg and its lovely castle it takes about an hour drive from Wuerzburg. If you like take a look at Ewingjr98's Aschaffenburg page & tips .

Pros:"You'll bring back nice memories of a beautiful area"
In A Nutshell:"Wuerzburg reminded me of Nuremberg less noisy though"
