Germany's capital and a few sights

The German Historical Museum

Unter den Linden
The German Historical Museum, the former Arsenal of 1695, is the oldest building on Berlin's boulevard "Unter den Linden". The central courtyard is decorated with twentyandtwo masks of dying warriors. The German Historical Museum offers a permanent exhibition on German history. At this point may I suggest a visit of "Platz der Luftbruecke". A reminder on the Russian blockade when Berlin was held alive uniquely through an airlift organized by the American allied power! Berlin Airlift 1948 to 1949. Think of "Raisin or Candy Bombers" ..known for its drops of candy and chocolate for local children. "It showed the deep compassion of the American people and sent a message of hope and liberty to Berlin and to freedom-loving people around the world."
Nostalgiemarkt

Historical center

The Nostalgiemarkt is located in the oldest part of Berlin, the historical center on the Museum Island. This view is taken from the river of Spree. The romantic Nostalgiemarkt makes you forget the noise and hectic of the big city. You may take your way over the Castle Bridge designed by K.F. Schinkel in 1924. Its marble figures represent the victory goddess.
Leipziger Strasse

Potsdamer Platz

Before WWII Berlin's Potsdamer Platz was designed by Frederick William I about 1741. It was the busiest square of Europe between the eastern and western parts. During the Iron Curtain Potsdamer Platz became "no man's land". Now, since the fall of the Berlin Wall 1989 it is the new city's center.
I have lived, worked, studied in (western) Berlin about 13 years, and only now since I moved away I every often can visit and enjoy Berlin's great historic sites.

I went to Tempelhof Airport by chance, to look around, and they were commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Berlin Airlift with speakers etc as per your tip.

We were fortunate to see Berlin with some good German friends; and he is a history professor, so we had a great tour!! They just departed from our home yesterday to go onto Mexico City before returning to Heidelberg.
