I was in a very public area and several teenagers tried to grab my purse/backpack and proceeded to rifle through it before I managed to get away. I kept my passport and money at the very bottom in a zipped area so they didn't get anything but it taught me a lesson. After that I didn't keep all of my important papers with me. Just some cash and an ID. Twice after that I caught someone tugging at or putting their hands in my coat pocket on the subway. I made it a point to put my camera out of view when I wasn't using it and not keeping money or valuables in easily accessable pockets.

Very aggressive vendors were a problem in several major tourist areas. I had the most trouble at the Eiffel Tower and the Sacre Ceour. Maybe because I was a woman and traveling alone. One evening I just wanted to sit and gaze at the Eiffel Tower and people watch but couldn't because I kept getting approached by vendors or men asking me if I "like to party". It was unfortunate.

Nemorino Fri Nov 3, 2006 20:21 UTC Sounds like you had a good time and saw a lot even though it was so rainy in December. But yes, you really should go back in the summer. I spent ten days in Paris last June and had a great time. (Even though there was a heat wave going on.) | whitecliff62 Sun Jan 29, 2006 07:37 UTC Hi Lisa, isn't Paris a beautiful city, loads to see and do, hopefully i will get back there this year, all the best Cliff | jolou Fri Mar 11, 2005 18:15 UTC The catacombs look great - I had never heard about them before. | ettenaj Mon Jun 7, 2004 21:25 UTC Great page , didnt see the inscriptions to the late Diana. |
