"WELCOME TO A MALTESER PARADISE" ROCKARIA's Profile
Hi, thanks for visiting my page : )
I make it a point to travel 2 -3 times a year to distant countries and i have travelled far and wide to Asia,America, south America,North Africa and whole of Europe.
Travelling for me have become a passion and through this i have seen the marvels that this world offers and even managed VT meetings along the way.
I am Maltese and coming from the island of MALTA situated in the middle of the meditteranean sea just 120 Km from the tip of Sicily .....we are not Italians or arabs or make up part of another country as some know it but we are typical meditteranean people living in an independent and Republic country.
Something about us and from where we are coming from.....we are a proud and patriotic nation of about 400,000 maltese ...the most densely populated place per km on earth ! ( 1,000,000 are living abroad....if all of them come back we might actually sink : )
Through our thousands of years of rich culture and history spanning from stone age ,we have been governed by so many different powers from the Romans,Normans, arabs,to the knights, french and the British empire as they saw Malta as a strategic location sitting pretty in the middle of the meditteranean sea.....but although they governed us they never managed to rule due to our nature of being individualists and not a just a "yes sir" population so they found it hard to control the maltese and getting us to do their bidding. Anyway..i believe that the best years for the Maltese were during the Knights of Malta were we joined forces as pirates terrorising the meditteranean sea and defeating the Ottoman(Turkish) empire of that time.....making it safe for the rest of europe. If this did not happen Europe could have been a different place nowadays! Also through the years we took advantage of the british empire as a colony were business trived and the maltese took the opportunity to bank on it but suffered the consequences during the 2nd world war as the most bombed place during the last war. After the second world war there was mass emigration to countries such as Australia,U.S.A.,Canada and UK.
We are proud to have our own language which is both semetic and romantic & our own airlines (Airmalta). We have a large industrial infrastracture but the main source of income is from the tourist sector.Main attractions for the visitors is the rich history, many historical sites ,Clean clear sea, great beaches, fine restaurants, fantastic night life and great weather.
The Maltese are well known for their hospitality and friendliness as long as they are not being compromised or patronised and can communicate easily in several languages.
There is so much going on in such a small area! In Malta there is much to do or see. There are things that we consider norms and actually typical maltese and you won't find them anywhere else in the world... So try to visit our Island i am pretty sure you will find it interesting....there is always something to everyones taste or desire....
All photos in my homepage are taken by me and with my camera. In some photos i can look younger or suddenly older so always ask for my latest .....lol....In the meantime i would really enjoy to hear from anyone
who wants to write and i will also help as much as i can if you need info regarding Malta....so.........drop me a line ....until then cheers!
Mdina was built by the arabs and was the capital city before the arrival of the Knights of st John after their expulsion from Rhodes in 1530.
It is called the silent city because it is forebidden for cars to enter Mdina.
This small island is situated between Malta and Gozo within visual distance of each other. The film 'Monte Christo" have been shot on Comino.
If you want to experience a clear crystal sea then....what are you waiting for....there is also a hotel on Comino and the island could be reached only by boat
For about 4 Euros one can cross over from Malta to Gozo by ferry in about 20 mins.
Gozo should not be missed as it has its own character.
Ok..we maltese take pride in our cars and have great fun avoiding potholes unlike our european counterparts! We also tend to drive in the shade !
