Celebrating the RAT CNY 2008

We are on the 11th day of Chinese New Year (CNY) or Spring Festival of 2008! In 4 days time is Chap Goh Meh, which is the 15th and final day of CNY. On that day (coinciding with the Chinese Valentine Day), the unmarried ladies will gather at some river or sea to throw oranges or tangerines and wish for some prospective candidate (who would be their spouse) to pick it up and find them to be married. Romantic, isn't it? Well, this myth originates in Penang, Malaysia for a way to match-make eligible ladies with eligible men.

This year is the Yang Earth Rat - it is a good year for almost all the animal zodiacs except for those who are born in the Horse and Monkey year which should take some precaution in the love, health, career areas. They have to keep a low-profile and avoid organisation politics and visiting the sick, funeral or any undesirable occassion/place. You can read more from this website: http://www.feng-shui.eu.com/advice/chineseanimalpredictions2008.htm

Hopefully, I would stick to my resolution to update my homepage. I will like to thank all the VT members who actually take the time to view my homepage, travel pages and tips. Do provide me your feedback or comment on it. Thank you in advance.

Would like to wish all VT members a very HAPPY NEW YEAR 2008 and may you have many happy returns!

Goodbye Beijing, Home of 3 Years

Wow! I never thought or realized that time passes by so fast. Come to think of it, Beijing has been my home for THREE years and in a few days i.e. 31st of August 2006, I would be going back for good to Malaysia.

So for those in or who wants to visit Malaysia, do drop me an email or word on my home/ travel pages to meet up. Gosh, I am going to miss Beijing and China: the people that I've met, the places that I've gone, the customs that I've learned and the fun things that I did in China. Zai jian, Beijing and China. Thank you for the memorable lessons and experiences you have shown and shared to me. Hope to see you in a near future again

To learn is to travel

HI THERE! Just something about myself. Well, I've been travelling since 6 months old - flying by aeroplanes, small aircraft and helicopter; riding on motorcycles, bicycles and trishaws; travelling by car, jeep and lorry, and walking, hiking and trekking by foot. Ever since then, I've been hit by the travel bug and loved every single bit of it. I have travelled around Malaysia, except for Sabah and all the islands around Penisular Malaysia, and most part of the world.

Travel with eyes wide open

While I was studying in UK, I visited some of the historical and scenic places around England and Scotland but not Ireland. Wish I had done it then! After I've completed my studies, I went on a camping tour that lasted 21 days, travelling 8 European countries with a group of 42 fun-loving and adventurous, aged 18 to 30 years old, tour members. It was a fabulous and unforgettable experience since it was my first time camping and setting up a tent!

Travel to find my "roots"

Currently, I'm working in Beijing, China as a lecturer in a private international college; hence, I've taken this golden opportunity to explore this mysterious yet charming country with its most populous nation to find my Chinese roots. I hope I have one! ; p

Travelling in a dream

Recently, I've visited nearby country like South Korea; main reason of visiting the country is to try to catch a glimpse of my favourite star, Jang Dong Gun - I've always admired and respected his work and not for his good looks but that's a bonus : ). Anyway, next on my travel list is Russia and Japan. So, wish me luck in my next, upcoming travel!

Dashing through lifetime

Well, here's a special message called The Dash. I would like to thank all the people I've met and known through this wonderful and adventurous VT homepage who have shared wonderful stories, tips and experiences with me and making my dash a meaningful one. I wish that you would meet wonderful people who would make your dash worthwhile and meaningful too - especially when one travels!

THE DASH

A man stood up to speak
At the funeral of a friend.

He referred to the dates on her tombstone,
From the beginning...to the end.

He noted that first came her date of birth
And spoke the following date with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all
Was the dash between those years.

(1934 - 1998)

For that dash represents all the time
That she spent alive on earth...

And now only those who loved her,
Know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not, how much we own;
The cars...the house...the cash,
What matters is how we live and love,
And how we spend our dash.

So think about this long and hard...
Are there things you'd like to change?
For you never know how much time is left,
That can still be rearranged.

If we could just slow down enough,
To consider what's true and real,
And always try to understand
The way other people feel,

And be less quick to anger,
And show appreciation more,
And love the people in our lives,
Like we've never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect,
And more often wear a smile.
Remembering that this special dash
Might only last a little while.

So, when your eulogy's being read
With your life's actions to rehash...
Would you be proud of the things they say
About how you spent your dash?

I am glad that you're in my life and part of my dash.
From My dash to yours, Laugh long, live long!

Yesterday is history.
Tomorrow is a mystery.
Today is a GIFT."
