Founded in 1703 by Peter the great, Peter and Paul's fortress is the first construction built in S.Petersburg, and around which the city has developed. Untill the revolution,it was used primarily as a jail (it's possible to visit it) ...among the many important people who have been imprisoned here, we just recall the son of Peter, Aleksey, and Dostojevskij.

from the fortress you can admire a nice view of the of the city on the opposite bank of Neva river...in particular, far away on your left, the white Smolny cathedral, in front of you the winter's palace, then, on your right, the admiralty golden spire, S.Isaac's cathedral cupola, and then Vasilevskij island, with the building of naval museum between the 2 characteristic red rostral columns

...here you can see the opening of the bridge near winter's palace(you can see it in background) ...consider that on that bridges there are also the tram's cables. if the opening is interesting, even more interesting is when it is close back: the cars on both sides start going just like if it was the starting of a F1 race.

...the main street in S.Petersburg; it runs straight from the admiralty to Aleksander Nevskij monastir, for about 4 Km length. On this street you can find everithing; all the city seems living around it...maybe you'll like it, maybe you'll hate it, but be sure, you'll have to pass from here many times.

The monastir at the end of Nevskij prospekt it's one of the most important in Russia: there are only 4 Lavra (a Lavra is something more important than a simple monastir ) ; the other are in Moscow, Kiev, and Pochaev. Interesting the cemetery, where you can find, among the others, the tombs of Dostoevskij, Chajkovskij, Stravinskij
