During the summer of 2002 I went to Europe to visit my "host" family (from my foreign exchange) in Le Marche, Italy. The main port city of the region, Ancona, is right across the Adriatic from Split, Croatia. The ferry tickets on Jadrolinija were cheap enough (we didn't get cabins), so I went with a couple of friends. Luckily, one of my Italian friend's parents were vacationing there with their sailboat, so we did'nt have to worry about hotels. Split is definitely well worth the visit if you are in the Dalmatia region of Croatia. The city center is very nice to walk through and there is an incredible set of Roman ruins (a palace of one of the emperors). Split is a great starting point for seeing the Dalmatian region. |
