    I took the same train in 1981 - it took almost three days, and was even worse than in your experience, since we got no seats for the first 24 hours or so... One of the most difficult travelling experinence I had. Good memory though...

    Bring back memories. Drove from Phoenix, Gila Bend, Yuma and stopped at the border town of Calexico. Went into store, the beef on sale looked pretty bad. Interesting that across the border, the town is called Mexicali in reverse.
