"Salem's Largest Suburb" Keizer by atufft

Not Salem's Sister City

Salem has a reputation for voting liberal Democrat, much like Portland and Ashland, whereas Keizer appears to be mostly suburban Republican territory. The city of 35,000 has plenty of corporate strip malls and junk food establishments. City code requirements for architectural design and landscaping are minimal. So, I don't really recommend Keizer as a tourist destination; however, occasionally work requires that I stay in a hotel there, so I have a few images and tips for this town. If you would rather do as I do, and head into Salem's downtown for dinner, then the two cities are contiguous and such a walk is certainly doable. I have walked the two miles to and from Salem many times along River Road, the main artery between the two cities.

Soccer Mom's and Bowling Alleys

Keizer is the sort of town with a lot of focus on families, high school sports, and local recreation.
