Up Highway 9 from Santa Cruz | New Leaf Market Mural in Felton |
Felton is a town of about 9,000 residents just 15 minutes into the Santa Cruz Mountains from Santa Cruz. The town is infamous for it's volunteer fire fighters and Memorial Day parades. The town is about 98% liberal voting white, and so it caters heavily to those who love organic gardening, vegetarian foods, hippy fashions, and peaceful living. It's also a hangout for veterans from WWII, Vietnam, and Iraq Wars. |
| | Tallest Covered Bridge in the USA Felton is also home to the tallest covered bridge in the USA. For 45 years, this bridge was the only way to get into Felton from Santa Cruz. The train would come up to Roaring Camp Lumber Yard and folks would walk or take horse and buggy across the bridge, which is made of Douglas Fir Beams and Redwood Planking. |

deccomom Tue May 12, 2009 06:32 UTC The Felton Memorial Day Parade is like a step back in time with fashioned family fun! Rainbow Girls "float" by as the calliope plays and they hand out candy to the kids who smile and wave flags to honor our country's heroes. Not to be missed! | xaver Wed May 28, 2008 05:04 UTC Nice memorial day pics. | mircaskirca Tue May 27, 2008 20:13 UTC Oh, yes, I would certainly feel at home here :) It was good to learn about organic Sicilian cuisine - a good preparation for my coming trip to Sicily :) Enjoyed Bonny Doon Vineyards link :) |
