Emilio Hotel: Rooftop pool and French Restaurant Domina Inn Luxor Emilio Hotel Review

We didn't stay here although on the next go around, we might just try to get a room there. The top of the hotel has a restaurant, bar, and a small pool, and there are great views all around. I didn't get a chance to see the price schedule, but I had assumed that his place is top end, but a recent review confirms this as a 3 star hotel with possible inconveniences in the room. But, a review as of 12/2005 gives a thumbs up as a good place for budget minded travelers. Check out the web links below and see what the current ratings are.

Unique Qualities: As said, the roof top pool, restaurant, and bar made this place. It was quite busy, and there were a lot of Northern Europeans sunning themselves around the pool, so don't expect this place to be quiet and peaceful though. The French restaurant had good food, my notes say, but I can't recall what we had. I believe that I drank more than just a Stella though with my lunch. That is the wine list was surprisingly good.

Merryland Hotel: On the Esplande with View of Nile

We arrived without reservations, but had heard this was a good budget place to stay. It was not a fancy room, but then we only spent our sleeping hours there. The hotel is about a block or two south of the Luxor Temple, and maybe a 1/2 mile north of Karnak. It was about 3 or 4 blocks, plus or minus north of the tourist ferry to the West Bank. We found that the landing for the worker ferry about about the same or closer distance. We had A/C and TV with a small balcony that viewed on the Nile. The bath is private.

Unique Qualities: I don't recall anything unique about the place except its great location. This was the type of budget hotel we prefer. Like most lodging in Egypt, I don't really recommend reservations. It's more of a hassle than it's worth. There are plenty of hotel rooms in Luxor, and I didn't see any way that even at high season the place would book up as can be the case in the USA.
